Into the Secret Life of a Geisha gives the reader descriptions of the Maiko and Geisha lives. Matsu is sold to a Kyoto Geisha House at the age of fifteen. She goes through the training of a Maiko and becomes a Geisha when she turns twenty. In her search for a Danna (patron) she finds hardships in maintaining a partnership with different men.
